When Marines enter an abandoned house in Fallujah, Iraq, and hear a suspicious noise, they clench their weapons, edge around the corner, and prepare to open fire. What they find during the U.S. led attack on the "most dangerous city on Earth," however, is not an insurgent bent on revenge, but a tiny puppy left behind when most of the city's population fled before the bombing. Despite military law that forbids the keeping of pets, the Marines de-flea the pup with kerosene, de-worm him with chewing tobacco, and fill him up on Meals Ready to Eat. Thus begins the dramatic rescue attempt of a dog named Lava and Lava's rescue of at least one Marine, Lieutenant Colonel Jay Kopelman, from the emotional ravages of war. From hardened Marines to war-time journalists to endangered Iraqi citizens, From Baghdad, With Love tells an unforgettable true story of an unlikely band of heroes who learn unexpected lessons about life, death, and war from a mangy little flea-ridden refugee. The book From Baghdad With Love is now available at bookstores every where.

Same. :)Besides the Lava Dogs and the Ltc Koppelman, though, the army's full of assholes. I mean, come on! They hire people to kill animals that are being cared for by Marines? It pisses me off just thinking about it. Oh well, at least Koppelman's daring rescue of this absolutely adorable little dog serves as a huge smack in the face to the corrupt and heartless Department of Defense. I hope they'll drop their harsh rules on taking care of animals.

Just finished reading the book. A wonderful heartwarming story that gives us hope in a cruel, harsh world.

I have just finished reading this wonderful book and would like to take my hat off to the people that made this rescue possible, it has restored my faith in human beings. True determination won through in the end. My best wishes to Ltc Koppelman and of course Lava who is one lucky dog. Good luck for the future

You are truly one of the better examples of humanity. I just finished your book and it still blows my mind away. Lava is a special little thing and I'm so glad that he has made it to the States and to you.
