Wow. This is a really good cell phone app. I changed the settings a bit so it is almost realtime updating. I had a range of about 145. I also made some modifications to the PHP code, used some more API stuff...

Yes, you need to have your own website. If people have not installed my program on thier phone, then they won't be able to track. Usually I would suggest to people to call thier phone in the hopes of someone hearing but without a sim that may not be possible.

yes, like share your entire life because you think you have privacy using a pc or mac ignorance is bliss. just start opening library files and any false sense of security will quickly fade.

Thats true.
I use XP and Ubuntu, only bugs I experienced were neglect from the kernel (it hates my nvidia card) and crashes.
Anything else, well, is working fine. I'm not a programmer or hacker... None of those skills.
I love linux for it's freedom from MS and DRM.

I would love to write a BREW version of the gps tracker but my problem is the cost of getting the application certified. They don't make it cheap to write brew programs unfortunately.

Hmm, the xv6700 does indeed have GPS, but I am not sure whether VZ blocks it or not. Guess I'll find out. I can see that as possible, since the vast majority of VZ phones don't do Java (only crap BREW) with the exception of most of the Motos and of course the 6700...possibly a couple more models.
Probably my real mission is to get live GPS navigation working on this phone- then it would be perfect.

Yes, that is correct under two conditions. That the phone has gps and that verizon has not blocked gps for *developers* for that particular phone. Some cell phone companies will block gps to developers unless they pay a lot of money.
