Those are continents, these are countries you arrogant fool. Using that same logic, I could call someone Native to Brazil an American. A Canadian is a Canadian, an American is an American, a Mexican is a Mexican.

I also think that another interpretation for the lyrics is as a God or Creator sung to mankind. The lyrics are to someone struggling, imprisoned.

I'm a humungus Elliott fan, and I absoulutly love this cover! Such a back in the day voice. I reallly love this, and think u've done a great job in a very differnt way

I think it's open to either interpretation, but I'd always assumed it was meant to be sung to someone you love but aren't with. It's the line about the people who push and shove and won't bend to your will "i'll keep them still" - sounds like it's offering salvation to someone...

God I love this song. Thank you Elliot for writing such a lovely tune, and thank you Madeline for this amazing version. One think I`v always wondered... is the lyrics meant to be sung to a lover?... or is the lyrics meant to be sung by yout inner conscience speaking to you as it does every weekend?

the Continent is called America, at least here on Earth. Some earthlings say"north, south, central" America to be more specific. Live long and prosper
